Following the selection of Senator Bill Ferguson as the next President of the Senate of Maryland, Preservation Maryland Executive Director Nicholas Redding issued the following statement:

“Today, history was made yet again in Maryland with the end of Senator Thomas V. “Mike” Miller’s extraordinary thirty-three year tenure as President of the Maryland Senate and the selection of Senator Bill Ferguson as Senator Miller’s replacement.

Both Senator Miller and Senator Ferguson have been long-term champions of Maryland’s history and heritage and each have received awards from Preservation Maryland for their commitment to historic preservation.  Senator Ferguson has twice received the organization’s Legislator of the Year Award for championing legislation aimed at improving the state historic tax credit. Senator Ferguson has also joined the organization on numerous occasions for site visits to rehabilitation projects, special events, lectures and critical bill hearings.

We are very proud to call Senator Ferguson a dear friend and look forward to continuing our partnership with him in his new role as President of the Maryland State Senate.”
