The Campaign for Historic Trades Expands With Two New Team Members

By Dana Cohen

The Campaign for Historic Trades, an innovative workforce development program powered by Preservation Maryland, is pleased to announce the addition of two team members.

Michael Richter

Michael joins in the new position of Corps Manager and will develop trades training opportunities with public land agencies. He brings a decade of diverse experience to this role. Michael is an alumnus of the Montana Conservation Corps and the Peace Corps, and he has supervised trades projects from Yellowstone National Park’s Old Faithful Village to Eastern Europe. Prior to joining the Preservation Maryland team, Michael worked with Campaign partner Worcester Eisenbrandt restoring historic structures throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Jordan Riggs

Jordan joins as Preservation Maryland’s first AmeriCorps VISTA member, made possible through our partnership with Conservation Legacy. She will assist the Campaign’s effort to register Historic Trades Apprenticeships and develop related curriculum. Jordan has completed a variety of projects including developing battlefield tours, creating digital history projects, conducting oral history interviews,` and making a traveling exhibit on the timber industry for Pocahontas County’s bicentennial, which is now touring several spots in the county. In addition, she’s worked multiple roles at various museums and public historic sites throughout the region.

Michael and Jordan come at a critical moment of expansion for The Campaign. Our partnership with Conservation Legacy allows us to place trainees directly in trades positions across the country, and explore the creation of regionally-based crews to train and restore historic resources. Jordan will support these endeavors by identifying barriers to trades training. By identifying these barriers, we can help address them and support people entering historic trades careers. These are integral components in The Campaign’s mission to promote and develop the historic trades.
