For over 20 years, the Heritage Fund grant program has provided vital funds for preservation projects across the state – it is a stable source of funding needed by Maryland’s cultural organizations now more than ever. This most recent round, awarded in the midst of a global pandemic and civic unrest, will grant nearly $50,000 for needed repairs, research, and project planning in communities large and small – all stewards of authentic Maryland history.
To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, Preservation Maryland is using our 21th-century tools and an inclusive historic approach to elevate the complex history of Maryland’s suffragists and their lasting legacy on equality in the United States. The Ballot & Beyond project is powered by Preservation Maryland’s Six-to-Fix program with additional support by Gallagher, Evelius & Jones.
In late January 2020, in coordination with Maryland Women’s Legislative Caucus, Preservation Maryland organized a special event with leading suffrage historians in Annapolis to commemorate and share the multi-dimension history of the passage of the 19th Amendment.
Preservation Maryland’s work takes us to some of Maryland’s most stunning historic places but also to important places that time has forgotten and to communities that need our help. We work every day to make preservation a priority in approaching the challenges and opportunities of every historic community across Maryland, from Baltimore to Brunswick.
