With a grant from the Maryland Historical Trust through the Certified Local Government Program of the National Park Service, Preservation Maryland has selected Dr. Susan Ferentinos to begin work on the state’s first National Register nominations for properties significant for their LGBTQ heritage.

Preservation Maryland’s work takes us to some of Maryland’s most stunning historic places but also to important places that time has forgotten and to communities that need our help. We work every day to make preservation a priority in approaching the challenges and opportunities of every historic community across Maryland, from Baltimore to Brunswick. Preservation Maryland is seeking proposals for the preparation of National Register of Historic Places nominations and amendments for sites related to LGBTQ history in Maryland.

Preservation Maryland has made uncovering LGBTQ history in Maryland a priority project through our Six-to-Fix program. Today, the 50th Anniversary of the riots at the Stonewall Inn in New York City that marks a major turning point in the fight for LGBTQ equality, Preservation Maryland is proud to share what we have found about Maryland’s LGBTQ history.
