Preservation Maryland

The Woodberry neighborhood’s request for local historic district designation will have its first hearing in front of the Baltimore City Commission For Historical & Architectural Preservation (CHAP) on October 8, 2019. This is an essential step in protecting the historic character of the neighborhood that recently saw the startling demolition of two stone houses from the 1840s.

Earlier this month, Preservation Maryland was recognized by Baltimore Heritage, Inc. for managing the creation and installation of eight interpretive signs along Baltimore’s Jones Falls Valley.

With grant funding from the Baltimore National Heritage Area, Preservation Maryland has completed a two-year project to illustrate the labor history of the intact mill villages and buildings along the Jones Falls Valley in Baltimore City’s Hampden neighborhood by researching, designing, and installing eight new interpretative signs.

After startling and unnecessary demolition proposals were recently made public, Preservation Maryland is joining with its local partners at Baltimore Heritage, Greater Hampden Heritage Alliance and residents with the Woodberry Community Association to support the preservation of historic Woodberry.
