Spring 2022 Heritage Fund Recipients Announced

The Heritage Fund, a cooperative effort of Preservation Maryland and the Maryland Historical Trust, provides direct assistance for the protection of historical and cultural resources and promotes innovative demonstration projects that can be successfully replicated to meet Maryland’s historic preservation needs.

The Fund is intended to serve the needs of tangible cultural resources in Maryland. Historic sites, buildings, districts, objects, and archaeological resources are all eligible for funding. Preservation Maryland is pleased to announce the Spring 2022 Heritage Fund recipients.

Eastern Shore Heritage Inc – Assessing a Nationally Important Landscape

ESHI will use funds to prepare a feasibility study that conforms to the National Park Service Guidelines, one of the first steps in the National Heritage Area designation process.

Award: $9,000

Main Street Taneytown – Taneytown Creamery

The grant will provide matching funds for a Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) project grant for which Main Street Taneytown has applied. With funding from the Heritage Fund, MHAA, Main Street Taneytown, and the City of Taneytown, the organization will commission a Historic Structures Report.

National Colonial Farm’s Hall Tobacco Barn

Accokeek Foundation – Sharing a Preservation Story: Exhibit on Culture & Traditions at Piscataway Park

Funding will support the development of one new wayside exhibit located at the National Colonial Farm’s Hall Tobacco Barn.

Award: $10,000 

Waterfowl Festival Inc. – Waterfowl Building Condition Assessment

The grant will fund a comprehensive conditions assessment/engineering survey with estimated costs.

Union Mills Homestead Foundation, Inc.- Structural Assessment & Restoration Plan for Bollman Bridge

The grant will fund a structural assessment and preparation of a preservation report for the Bollman Bridge at the Union Mills Homestead, located seven miles north of Westminster, MD.

Award: $10,000

Chase-Lloyd House Venetian Window Restoration – Historic Paint Sampling, Analysis, and Interpretation

The grant will support the first phase of the Chase-Lloyd House Venetian Window restoration project – a historic paint sampling, analysis, and interpretation of the entire window assembly.

Robert Strawbridge House

Strawbridge Shrine Association, Inc. – Architectural Survey of the Strawbridge Complex

Preservation Maryland grant funds will be used to complete an intensive-level survey of the house and historic outbuildings in the farm complex, including: the house celebrated as the Robert Strawbridge House; the spring house; smokehouse; poultry house; double-pen log, bank barn; and the corn house/barn.

Martin 404 Airliner

The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum Martin 404 Airliner Restoration & Painting

The grant will go toward funding for the restoration and painting of the Martin 404 Airliner.
