Public History & Communications Internship

Preservation Maryland is seeking a Public History & Communications intern through our Waxter Internship Program.

 

INTERNSHIP DETAILS

Project: Seek out, explore, research, and write about interesting stories and places in Maryland history; convert those to blog posts and social media posts on a regular basis that may be featured on the Preservation Maryland blog or the PreserveCast podcast. See our blog and/or Facebook page for examples. Additionally, Preservation Maryland is looking for support in editing existing blogs as we migrate content to a new website in Spring 2022. 

Topics may include: Researching Maryland history and architecture, summarizing historic preservation projects, creating and posting to a communications/social media calendar.

Skills: Strong writing skills, general computer literacy, proficient in online historic research, familiarity with social media. Experience or coursework in design, journalism/reporting, photography/photo editing, and blogging/social media a big plus. In addition to the general application materials, please provide a writing sample suitable for a short essay or blog post.

When: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with the intention of filling the position in early Spring 2022.

Where: Preservation Maryland office in Baltimore City, and/or remotely.

Compensation: Preservation Maryland will work with selected applicants to qualify for academic credit hours, intern requirements, and/or provide an hourly wage starting at $12.20/hour. Approved mileage and travel expenses will be reimbursed.
