In spite of the challenges presented by this year, Preservation Maryland continues to invest in the future of our state by preserving the heart of our communities.

We do this by collaborating with local preservation partners year-round to administer essential grant funding through the Heritage Fund and Baltimore City Historic Preservation Fund. These programs provide a unique stable source of funding for innovative preservation and revitalization projects across the state- ensuring the continued growth and prosperity of our communities.

Projects supported by these programs not only preserve structures but also support neighborhood identity and contribute to the revitalization of communities.

GRANT PROJECT SUCCESS STORY: BELNORD THEATRE/CASA DE MARYLAND, BALTIMORE CITY

Recently, the Baltimore City Historic Preservation Fund granted CASA de Maryland, an organization that works to improve the quality of life in working-class and immigrant communities, $10,000 to restore the Belnord Theatre’s historic façade to its iconic 1929 appearance.

The now fully renovated space, known as the CASA Baltimore Regional Educational and Employment Center, provides on-site vocational training, workforce development programs, afterschool programs, legal services, and ESOL programming – helping surrounding communities grow despite recent hardships.

Even during Covid-19, CASA has been able to utilize the extra space of the Belnord Theatre renovation to host large-scale and socially-distanced grocery pick-ups. CASA is eager to return to full-strength – supporting the community – and the restored Belnord will take center stage.

Our grants save Maryland treasures and help revitalize historic communities!

IMAGINE WHAT WE COULD DO WITH FULLER COFFERS

Each year, we have to turn away deserving organizations due to a lack of funds. Your gift can make the difference – between lost and saved!
