Our largest event of the year, Phoenix Rising, took place Saturday, October 1st at historic Jerusalem Mill Village for an evening of food, fun, and fellowship. Partners, colleagues, and friends joined to celebrate a year of preserving history, heritage, and how our work has real impact on communities, the workforce, and the lives of current and future Marylanders.

In his remarks, President & CEO Nicholas Redding detailed how our passionate team has accomplished some monumental preservation wins.

  • Our Historic Property Redevelopment Program revitalized and sold the historic ca. 1830s log cabin in Hagerstown and announced – and began work on – new projects in Annapolis, Frederick, and Ellicott City. This work creates affordable housing, fights the effects of climate change, and revitalizes communities.
  • Our advocacy team fought for policies and funding that protect historic and cultural resources, including unprecedented funding for historic tax credit programs.
  • The Campaign for Historic Trades has expanded with new staff and programming, furthering our capacity to recruit and train individuals in historic preservation trades to ensure the workforce has the skilled hands needed to perform the vital and specialized work on historic resources across the country.
  • We continue to provide direct assistance for projects that protect historic sites, buildings, objects, and archaeological resources, and recently announced a new program, the Revitalization Support Center, a service that aids organizations and developers with rehabilitation tax credit applications, National Register of Historic Places nominations, and project management, assuring Maryland’s businesses and non-profits have cost-effective access to professional expertise for historic rehabilitation projects, guiding the preservation of even more historic assets in Maryland.
