Historic Real Estate Expert Hired to Lead Property Redevelopment Planning Effort

Preservation Maryland has engaged Sara K. Hayden as a consultant to lead the strategic and business planning for the Historic Properties Redevelopment Program.

Sara K. Hayden is based in Takoma Park, MD, and is currently on the Board of Directors of both Main Street Takoma and Historic Takoma, Inc. She advises nonprofits, companies, governments, and individuals on matters relating to preservation development programs and projects, historic preservation, and conservation real estate.

From 2012 to 2014, Sara was Director of Real Estate Development at The L’Enfant Trust in Washington, DC, where she launched DC’s first Historic Properties Redevelopment Program and managed the full rehabilitation of two formerly blighted homes in the Anacostia Historic District, DC. The Program and projects were honored with the 2015 DC State Historic Preservation Officer’s Award.

Prior to The L’Enfant Trust, Sara practiced law in San Francisco, CA, and Providence, RI, and has substantial experience representing non-profits, government entities, developers, and contractors on matters including historic preservation policy, construction, real estate, and land use issues.  She also has business experience in architecture and construction.

Sara holds a BA in Architecture and a JD, both from the University of California, Berkeley and is enrolled in the Master of Real Estate Development Program at the University of Maryland, where she is focusing on Real Estate Finance.
