Civil War Trails, Inc. is a non-profit organization that coordinates the research and installation of thousands of historic signs across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Now, you can explore their signs online and design your own road trip to explore Civil War history.

Along with more than 100 signs in Maryland, there are four suggested driving routes in Maryland including following:

  • the Antietam Campaign through Maryland and Virginia into Sharpsburg, Maryland,
  • the Attack on Washington through Washington, DC and Brookeville, MD and into Virginia,
  • the Gettysburg Campaign from Virginian, through Maryland and into Pennsylvania,
  • and the escape route of John Wilks Booth from Washington, DC through Southern Maryland into Virginia.

For those looking for a phone-free experience, Civil War Trails offers several brochure maps that can be found at local visitor centers or downloaded and printed at home.
