Maryland Day is Maryland’s Birthday! It commemorates the formal founding of the colony of Maryland, when the newly-arrived colonists erected a cross on St. Clement’s Island. The Four Rivers State Heritage Area organizes over 40 events plus 20 shopping discounts to celebrate Maryland’s Birthday at cultural, heritage, environmental and shopping locations in Anne Arundel County.
Hosted by Maryland Association of Historic District Commissions
Maryland Association of Historic District Commissions and Charles County Historic Preservation Commission invite you to a Social Hour at Mt. Aventine Manor House one of Southern Maryland’s most significant antebellum houses.
The Battle of Antietam remains the bloodiest one-day battle on American soil. On September 17, 1862, 23,000 soldiers became casualties in the first major Confederate attack on the Union during the Civil War. Every year, the National Park Service honors their sacrifice when it illuminates the Battlefield with 23,000 luminaries.
