The ​City ​of ​Cumberland, ​Maryland ​welcomes ​the ​National ​Railway ​Historical ​Society ​for ​the ​2018 ​National ​Convention. ​Those ​dates ​are ​Tuesday, ​August ​7 ​through ​Sunday, ​August ​12, ​2018. You ​will ​see ​a ​variety ​of ​railroad ​history ​as ​we ​tour ​different ​venues ​in ​and ​around ​Maryland, ​West ​Virginia ​and ​Pennsylvania. ​The ​traditional ​convention ​activities ​are ​planned, ​including ​two ​live ​steam ​trips, ​seminars, ​the ​annual ​banquet ​and ​the ​annual ​membership ​meeting. ​A ​night ​photo ​session ​is ​also ​planned ​at ​the ​Potomac ​Eagle ​Scenic ​Railroad ​in ​Romney, ​West ​Virginia. ​There ​will ​also ​be ​the ​normal ​Advisory ​Council ​and ​Board ​of ​Directors’ ​meetings. ​The ​convention ​will ​wrap ​up ​with ​a ​ride ​on ​the ​Western ​Maryland ​Scenic ​Railroad ​lunch ​train. Some ​other ​sites ​to ​consider ​visiting ​include ​the ​Allegany ​County ​Courthouse, ​the ​Canal ​Place ​Heritage ​Area ​and ​the ​Washington ​Street ​Historic ​District.

NAPC will bring their biennial FORUM to Des Moines, IA from July 18-22, 2018. Forum 2018 includes dozens of educational sessions and discussion panels, mobile workshops and tours, and five days of non-stop networking for commission staff and volunteers representing local, state and national organizations and government agencies.
