Wreaths Across America started in 1992 when a group of volunteers had a surplus of wreaths after adorning the graves of fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The movement is now supported by a national non-profit organization that helps organize wreath laying ceremonies at over 1000 cemeteries including many in Maryland.
Preservation Maryland convened dozens of volunteers at the historic Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Charles County this October for a volunteer workday addressing church history, cemetery conservation, archaeology, and historic preservation projects.
Since 1997, the Heritage Fund grant program has distributed over a million dollars in direct support for historic preservation projects in Maryland! This November, the selection committee awarded nearly $150,000 to ten deserving and unique projects across the state.
