Only in Maryland: The Funkyard Festival at Community Forklift

By Meagan Baco

Community Forklift, a Prince George’s County-based building material reuse store, will host The Funkyard Festival on Saturday, October 21, 2017 – and Preservation Maryland will be there!

What is Community Forklift?

Community Forklift is a non-profit reuse center for home improvement supplies. They pick up donations of unwanted and salvaged building materials throughout the metro DC region and then, make the building materials available to the public at low cost, and provide vintage materials for restoring old homes. As a preservation partner, Community Forklift also does a great job with outreach and public education about reuse.

More about the Festival

We’re highlighting funk music and funky artistic and practical reuse, while also celebrating the preservation of our local history! Bring your friends, your family, and your pets to the Community Forklift warehouse for a celebration of all things reuse in the Capital area. Meet historic preservation experts and tradespeople, get antique appraisal advice, and attend free workshops on DIY repair and creative reuse. Throughout the day their will be demonstrations who work with salvaged/reused materials, live funk music, kids activities, a local food truck, local craft beer and wine, and locally salvaged items for sale.
