Preservation Maryland is pleased to announce a new initiative and program for the 85-year old organization; a weekly preservation podcast. PreserveCast, as it is known, will look at the intersection of preservation and technology and the way the future is shaping our past.

PreserveCast, is the result of several years’ worth of planning and discussions and was called for in the organization’s strategic plan. The podcast, which will be recorded in the organization’s Baltimore offices, will be released weekly and will cover a wide variety of topics and issues relating to preservation and the impact of technology. Unlike many of Preservation Maryland’s programs which are confined to the Free State’s borders, the podcast will discuss topics and issues from around the nation and the entire globe.

REACHING NEW AUDIENCES

Additionally, a special 10 episode series in 2017 will focus on Antietam National Battlefield – a stunning national battlefield park in Maryland – and will look at the people, organizations and advocacy that was responsible for protecting this pristine cultural landscape.

The podcast will be hosted by Preservation Maryland Executive Director Nicholas Redding who will interview preservationists from around the country to better understand how emerging and existing technologies are impacting historic preservation efforts. Redding will be joined by other Preservation Maryland staff members and partner organization colleagues who will offer insight and conduct interviews of their own.

The podcast is made possible from a grant from the National Park Service’s preservation media grant program. The grant was provided to the Anacostia Trails Heritage Area and is being produced in partnership with that organization. The In-depth Antietam series is made possible thanks to a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
