Main Street Maryland Certifies Two New Historic Communities

Early this month, the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development designated two new Main Street communities into the statewide economic development program, the Town of New Market and the City of Laurel. There are now 30 Main Streets across Maryland with even more in Baltimore City.

TOWN OF NEW MARKET

New Market, founded when George Washington was president, is rich in history and is the perfect place to bring the family for a stroll down Main Street. Visitors will find fascinating shops, from American Indian jewelry to antiques to crystals, gems, and hand-crafted pottery to pique their curiosity as well as restaurants to satisfy their appetites and a farm winery with historic roots. New Market offers a year’s worth of events that are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

CITY OF LAUREL

The State’s first designated Main Street in Prince George’s County, Laurel is centrally located 21 miles from both Baltimore and Washington, D.C. making it perfect for a day trip or weekend getaway. Enjoy shopping, dining, and entertainment that includes two local theaters.
