The National History Day program reaches more than 500,000 middle and high school students around the world! And that program moved to Maryland in 1992, and culminates with the official contest taking place at the University of Maryland each year. With the scale of this initiative, organizers are always looking for volunteers and judges, here’s how you can help:

MARYLAND DISTRICT CONTESTS

February and March 2018

In order to be eligible to compete at the state contest, students must compete in the district contest in which their school is located. Maryland Humanities is the hub for this information and hosts a list organized by Maryland county and then district. If you’re interested in being a volunteer and/or judge at a specific location, use this list to find contact information for those district coordinators.

MARYLAND HISTORY DAY

April 28, 2018, University of Maryland, Baltimore County

When a student is selected to advance through a regional district contest, they will then be allowed to register for the statewide Maryland History Day. Volunteers can help at this level by reviewing student projects, interviewing contestants, selecting the winners to advance to the national contest, and providing constructive feedback. Register for this event directly through Maryland Humanities.
